Metrics similar to 9 Month Price Total Return in the valuation category include:
Goodwill - This item represents the excess of purchase price paid over the fair market value of net assets acquired, net of any write downs for impairment in value. Goodwill is now no longer amortized over an estimated useful life as was being done earlier (prior to SFAS 142). Instead the balance of goodwill has to be assessed at every reporting period and a write down for impairment has to be recognized when determined. The assessment for impairment is done by applying a fair value based test.
Change In Inventories - The increase or decrease in a company's inventories for the period.
Depreciation & Amortization (CF) - This item represents non-cash periodical charge on account of wear and tear of fixed assets used in the business. This item also includes amortization of all intangible assets and goodwill.
Note: If the line reported in cash flow by the company is "Depreciation, amortization and other non-cash charges", we exclude from this all amortizations towards deferred charges, stock based-compensation, impairment and other non-cash charges included in it.
Common Stock - The value of net common equity ownership.
